Functions as dependence
Change the rate and initial value in a linear rule. Predict which visual feature moves before checking: steepness belongs to the rate; vertical placement belongs to the initial value.
What changed
The rate is 0.28 and the initial value is 3. Rate changes tilt; initial value changes vertical placement.
Return to the route
Experiment after prediction.
Before changing a control, say which visible feature should move and which should remain invariant. That prediction is the useful part of the experiment; motion alone is not evidence.
